New This Week: Chanel Caviar, a Goyard Petit Flot and Three Vintage Bi-Tone Watches

A strong week for black leather in small formats, and an unusually good one for vintage watches — three bi-tone pieces from Gucci, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent landed within minutes of each other.

Bags

The Chanel Small Boy Bag in Black Caviar with Silver Hardware is the week's anchor. At 20 cm with an adjustable chain, it sits in the useful gap between evening bag and everyday bag, and caviar leather is the finish to buy if you actually intend to carry it. Described as like new, with only minor signs of use inside.

Alongside it, the Chanel Top Handle Mini Rectangular Flap in Caramel Lambskin with Light Gold Hardware — a full set with a copy of the receipt, and the hardware stickers still intact. Caramel lambskin against light gold is a softer, warmer combination than the black-and-silver default, and it suits someone building a second Chanel rather than a first.

The Goyard Petit Flot Bucket Bag in Black Goyardine Canvas is the quieter proposition and, for some buyers, the more interesting one. Goyardine is light, hard-wearing and reads as understated to anyone not looking for it. It arrives in excellent condition with its dust bag.

The Saint Laurent Emmanuelle Fringe Bucket Bag brings a looser, more Parisian energy — black calfskin, gold-tone hardware, a short rolled handle and an adjustable shoulder strap, so it works cross-body or in the hand. And the Chanel Calfskin Archetype Small Shopping Tote in brown calfskin is the most practical of the group: two rolled top handles, gold-tone hardware, and a front pocket closed with a CC turnlock.

Vintage Watches

The Gucci 1500L in Stainless Steel is a bangle-style piece with a pink mother-of-pearl dial — Swiss-made, Swiss quartz movement, and far more discreet on the wrist than the description suggests. It's the sort of watch that works with a shirt cuff.

The Christian Dior Bi-Tone Octagon Watch comes at it from the jewellery side: an octagonal case in steel and gold-plate with a grey dial, Swiss-made with a quartz movement. Geometric, slightly severe, very good with tailoring.

Our pick of the three is the Yves Saint Laurent Bi-Tone Ribbon Link Watch, made in France and dated to 1995. Steel and gold-plate, a white dial, a blue cabochon crown for a note of colour, and a sculptural ribbon-style link bracelet that does most of the work.

Outerwear

Two coats worth flagging while the season still justifies them. The Moncler Maya Down Puffer in Chocolate Brown is the house's defining silhouette in a colour that's easier to wear than black, presented in great pre-owned condition and sold as is.

The Christian Dior Manteau Laine Noir is the opposite argument — 100% virgin wool, classic cut, black, and the kind of coat that dates slowly if at all.
